Eat Extra Fiber To Build Up Your Body
Most people understand that
fiber plays an important role in the overall health and wellness of the
body, but this form of carbohydrate is actually quite beneficial to
bodybuilders as well. Fiber is found in the cell walls of plants and
can be obtained from food sources such as fruits, vegetables, oat bran,
beans, grains and psyllium.
Fiber stays intact as it makes it's way through the human body, in
which it is indigestable. This is due to it's chemical structure. It
is, in fact, a carbohydrate, but doesn't function like one because it
can't break down into the typical glucose building blocks. Just because
fiber is'nt considered a necessary nutrient, that does'nt mean that it
isn't a a required ingredient in building muscle and power and
improving your general health.
Many people use fiber as a way to regulate bowel movements. What makes
this as critical as it is to a bodybuilder? Meats like chicken and beef
will account for one of the sources of protein.
The negative consequences of that is that when meat stays in the body
for too long without being excreted, it tends to produce toxins which
can cause disease. A reasonable amount of fiber in your diet will
insure smooth digestion.
Fiber is also beneficial in its effect on slowing down the rate of
gastric emptying. When you consume foods containing fiber, they become
"gelled" in your stomach and slow down this process. The small
intestine is where most nutrients are absorbed and pumped into the
bloodstream.
If you reduce the speed of food, that is transferred to the small
intestine, your body will be able to extract nutrients in a much more
efficient way. Fiber does two things. It aids your digestion and
regulates blood sugar levels. You can decrease the chances of
unnecessary insulin spikes and the unwanted storage of fat this way,
for it will create a more gradual release of the sugars into the
bloodstream.
This will help increase your body's production of this anabolic hormone
without the need to consume larger amounts of carbohydrates. Maximum
benefits result when you make sure to eat 25-35 grams of fiber daily.
